Observation and Mass Measurement of the BaryonΞb−

We report the observation and measurement of the mass of the bottom, strange baryon $\Xi^-_b$ through the decay chain $\Xi^-_b \to J/\psi \Xi^-$, where $J/\psi \to \mu^+ \mu^-$, $\Xi^- \to \Lambda \pi^-$, and $\Lambda \to p \pi^-$. Evidence for observation is based on a signal whose probability of arising from the estimated background is 6.6 x 10^{-15}, or 7.7 Gaussian standard deviations. The $\Xi^-_b$ mass is measured to be $5792.9\pm 2.5$ (stat.) $\pm 1.7$ (syst.) MeV/$c^2$.

Measurement of the polarization of the Ξ0 (Ξ0¯) hyperon beam by the NA48/1 experiment

Abstract A total of 368 415 Ξ 0 → Λ π 0 and 31 171 Ξ 0 ¯ → Λ ¯ π 0 were selected from data recorded in the NA48/1 experiment during 2002 data taking. From this sample, the polarization of Ξ 0 and Ξ 0 ¯ hyperons was measured to be P Ξ 0 = − 0.102 ± 0.012 (stat) ± 0.008 (syst) and P Ξ 0 ¯ = − 0.01 ± 0.04 (stat) ± 0.008 (syst) . The dependence of P Ξ 0 on the Ξ 0 transverse momentum with respect to the primary proton beam is also presented. With the same data sample, the ratio of Ξ 0 ¯ and Ξ 0 fluxes in proton collisions at 400 GeV / c on a beryllium target was measured.

Masses, lifetimes and production rates of Ξ− and Ξ¯+ at LEP 1

Measurements of the Xi(-) and (Xi) over bar (+) masses, mass differences, lifetimes and lifetime differences are presented. The (Xi) over bar (+) sample used is much larger than those used previously for such measurements. In addition, the S production rates in Z -> b (b) over bar and Z -> q (q) over bar events are compared and the position xi* of the maximum of the distribution in Z -> q (q) over bar events is measured.

Decay chain information on the newly discovered double charm baryon state $\Xi_{cc}^{++}$

We interprete the new double charm baryon state found by the LHCb Collaboration in the invariant mass distribution of the set of final state particles $(\Lambda_c^+\,K^-\,\pi^+\,\pi^+)$ as being at the origin of the decay chain $\Xi_{cc}^{++} \to \Sigma_c^{++} (\to \Lambda_c^+ \pi^+) +\bar K^{*0} (\to K^- \pi^+)$. The nonleptonic decay $\Xi_{cc}^{++} \to \Sigma_c^{++} + \bar K^{*0}$ belongs to a class of decays where the quark flavor composition is such that the decay proceeds solely via the factorizing contribution precluding a contamination from internal $W$-exchange. On heavy baryon decay form factors

We consider in detail the consequences of the heavy quark mass limit in the weak decay of 1/2+ heavy baryons to 1/2+ and 3/2+ heavy baryon final states. We also analyze heavy baryon to light baryon transitions as well ase+e−-annihilation into heavy baryon-antibaryonpairs. We discuss possible approximations to the most general approach and some of their implications for future experiments.

Measurement of the relative branching fractions ofB¯→D/D*/D**l−ν¯ldecays in events with a fully reconstructedBmeson

We determine the relative branching fractions of semileptonic B decays to charmed final states. The measurement is performed on the recoil from a fully reconstructed B meson in a sample of 362×106 BB pairs collected at the Υ(4S) resonance with the BABAR detector. A simultaneous fit to a set of discriminating variables is performed on a sample of B→DX-ν decays to determine the contributions from the different channels. We measure Γ(B-→D-ν)/Γ(B-→DX-ν)=0.227±0. 014±0.016, Γ(B-→D*-ν)/Γ(B-→DX- ν)=0.582±0.018±0.030, and Γ(B-→D **-ν)/Γ(B-→DX-ν)=0.191±0. 013±0.019 for the charged B sample, and Γ(B0→D- ν)/Γ(B0→DX-ν)=0.215±0.016±0. 013, Γ(B0→D*-ν)/Γ(B0→DX- ν)=0.537±0.031±0.036, and Γ(B0→ D**-ν)/Γ(B0→…

Multi-strange baryon production in p-Pb collisions at √sNN = 5.02 TeV

The multi-strange baryon yields in Pb–Pb collisions have been shown to exhibit an enhancement relative to pp reactions. In this work, and production rates have been measured with the ALICE experiment as a function of transverse momentum, pT, in p–Pb collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of √sNN = 5.02 TeV. The results cover the kinematic ranges 0.6 GeV/c < pT < 7.2 GeV/c and 0.8 GeV/c < pT < 5 GeV/c, for and respectively, in the common rapidity interval −0.5 < yCMS < 0.
